Apple, Samsung prepping larger tablets? 10-inches too small?

Whoever said size doesn’t matter wasn’t on the product teams at Apple or Samsung, with a rumour surfacing this morning that the companies are planning a tablet with a 12-inch or larger display.

According to DigiTimes, sources in the supply chain believe that the iPad and Galaxy Tab manufacturers are trying to create a new product category, away from the explosion that is happening in the 7-inch space.

Whilst it’s not the first time we have seen tablets larger than 10-inches, in fact Panasonic has a 20-inch one, it’s the first we have heard of Apple and Samsung’s plans.

With the traditional notebook market in a continual decline, whilst the tablet market explodes, it was only a matter of time before larger tablets became a reality.

We currently have phones that have a 7-inch screen, similar to small tablets, it is a natural progression to have larger tablets hit the market.

The iPad has seen a significant drop in its shipments, with the competition from Android tablets putting pressure on Apple to innovate once again. It could go the route of Samsung and create a completely new product category, like Samsung did with Phablets.

Of course this is all rumours at the moment, and nothing has been confirmed — so please do sprinkle this with a pinch of salt.

What do you think. Would you be in the market for a larger tablet or do you think tablets are too big as they are? Let us know in the comments below.
