Apple iPhone 6s loses out on camera benchmarks

Benchmark results for the new iPhone 6s camera are finally in and the result could be seen by some as a little disappointing.

Respected camera benchmarking website DxOMark has given its review of the iPhone 6s camera, with the overall result lagging behind several newer Android handsets. The device achieved an overall score of 82, which is still an excellent result but a few marks short of the top-flight smartphone cameras. To put this into perspective, it was narrowly beaten by the Motorola X Style (83), LG G4 (83) and Google Nexus 6P (84), while the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge (86) and Sony Xperia Z5 (87) are still the main frontrunners for camera tech. Oddly, the newer iPhone 6s achieved exactly the same score as the previous generation iPhone 6, which indicates that all the new enhancements hasn’t really done much for overall image quality.

All individual category scores were higher than 70 aside from video stabilisation, which came in at a disappointing 60. This is likely due to a lack of optical image stabilisation, which is currently only available on the iPhone 6s Plus. Should they review that handset as well, the bump in score for that particular category could push it into contention with the Sony Xperia Z5 and Samsung Galaxy S6.

For now though, it sits in a respectable if underwhelming 10th place on the list.
