Apple’s iPad Air was the “clear winner” when it came to Black Friday mobile device sales, according to Localytics.
The mobile and web app analytics company has found that the tablet saw the highest growth in sales over the Black Friday weekend (Friday November 29 ‘ Monday December 2), with 51 per cent more new iPad Air devices being sold than the previous week.
In the UK, Apple and reseller John Lewis reduced the cost of the iPad Air by £31 from £399 to £368. In the US, Apple also offered gift cards with purchases of the iPad Air and iPad Mini.
Apple’s older iPad Mini model finished second, and the iPhone 5c took third. The iPhone 5c is gaining on the iPhone 5s in terms of sales, Localytics said.
On the Android side, the seven-inch Kindle Fire HD and the Samsung Galaxy S4 saw the greatest growth of new devices.
Localytics said its findings were based on a comparison of new devices activated on Black Friday weekend (Nov 29 ‘ Dec 2) against the new devices activated the previous weekend (Nov 22 ‘ Nov 25), with a sample of over 1 million new devices.
