Another build your own phone unveiled, this time from Motorola

Yesterday we introduced you to Phonebloks, a fascinating experiment that allows you build your own phone with blocks. Now another build your own phone has been revealed, coming from Motorola.

It looks pretty similar to what we saw yesterday and is again in the concept stage. Basically the phone comes in bits and pieces. Motorola states that it wants to “do for hardware what the Android platform has done for software.”

So basically, a third party could build its own camera for you purchase and snap onto your own phone. In effect, you’d be given full control over what happens with your handset.  Aside from customisation, it will also help with things like phone repair, as you’ll just be able to replace whatever component is broken.

Again, we don’t know if we’ll ever actually get to use these devices ourselves as its all in design. But that doesn’t stop it from being a neat idea. Could another build your own phone be in development anywhere else?
