Sony has announced they will release the Android N update to select Xperia devices including the flagship Z5.
The Japanese smartphone manufacturer did not announce any dates but did confirm that the update will be rolling out to the following devices: Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia X , Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra and Xperia X.
The announcement comes just after Google released the new operating system on Nexus handsets, while HTC also said that the A9 and HTC 10 would be getting the update. The LG V20 is still expected to be the first handset which will come with Android Nougat straight out of the box.
Android N update slowly rolling out to more handsets
Currently, LG is running a closed test in Korea that gives 2000 early adopters the chance to try out Android N. Users will need to download the LG OS preview application first.
Android Nougat brings plenty of new features to the operating system, including heightened security and graphical enhancements thanks to the new Vulkan API. This is on top of other much requested features such as multi-window mode and Daydream, which will allow virtual reality to become much more commonplace in mobile devices.
