Mobile gaming is an industry that only keeps getting bigger. Games act as a perfect companion for those stressful morning commutes or short journeys. However, with the wealth of titles on offer it can be a little daunting to separate the good from the bad.

We’re bringing back the top 5! Here’s our pick of the five best smartphone games this week!

Uncharted: Fortune Hunter (Android and iOS)

Price: Free (in-app purchases)

If you’re sad you didn’t grab one of those cheeky early copies of Uncharted: A Thief’s End on the PS4. Maybe this smartphone game can fill the void until May 10th. It’s less epic than the mains series but this portable puzzler is sure to tickle your brain. Fortune Hunter places Nathan Drake on a grid-based puzzle environment with lethal hazards. The aim of the game is to get to the end of the map in as few moves as possible. An excellent game that also unlocks extra features in Uncharted: A Thief’s End if you link your PlayStation account.

Battleborn Tap (Android and iOS)

Price: Free (in-app purchases)

When 2K Games say tap, they really mean it with Battleborn Tap. Another mobile game tie-in with another big video game release, in this case the big game is Battleborn. It seems we’ve evolved from games that tie-in with movies to app games that tie-in with games. Those that remember the former, will remember they were God awful. Thankfully Battleborn Tap is bearable, a bit brainless as you can pretty much complete levels by just mashing the screen. Extra content is available for Battleborn if you link your account.

Hungry Shark World (Android and iOS)

Price: Free (in-app purchases)

Ever wanted to be a shark? Well this is the closest you’re going to get. Hungry Shark World puts you in the fins of a shark, doing shark things, such as consuming overweight tourists and EVERYTHING in your path. It’s a fun game with so much destruction involved, swim around and eat to gain points, equip upgrades and transform into a bigger shark. It gets ridiculously fun when you become a Megalodon. Graphics are really impressive, the blood really pops out of the screen.

INKS – Pinball (Only on iOS)

Price: £1.49

You’re probably wondering why this pinball game looks so stylish. Well that’s because State of Play Games also did Lumino City, so you’re always guaranteed some eye candy from them. Pinball is usually at the bottom of our list when we consider a game to download because it doesn’t hold our attention very long, unless it’s physical pinball. INKS is a heavily stylised game and it isn’t your typical pinball game. The environment constantly changes with some true innovations to the pinball formula.

Vikings: War of Clans (Android and iOS)

Price: Free

A massive multiplayer online, mobile strategy game is what we get from Plarium, who seem to love making the same kind of game. Past efforts from Plarium include Sparta: War of Empires and Stormfall: Age of War. The Plarium gameplay formula is as follows: a focus on base-building, resource management and troop distribution and you get that with Vikings of course. The aim of the game is simple, conquer the world, conquer it all and destroy rivalling clans. You can choose to not destroy your friends if you’re feeling merciful and clan up with them instead.
