With the Christmas period coming to close lots of people have bought some very expensive presents and guarding your house with the use of a security camera is a vital tool in the fight against burglary. What we have found with technology improving all the time security systems are also getting better.

We have been given the D-Link Wire-Free camera kit to review which is priced at £367.99 from Amazon at the time of review. Some might call this expensive but for someone who has been burgled, you can not put a price on a safe home.

The D-Link DCS-2802KT Wire Free Camera Kit is a security camera system that comes in 2 parts the hub that connects to your router and the 2 cameras which can be placed anywhere in your home. For this review, we placed one camera by the front door and the other by the rear of the house. Both cameras are  IP65-Rated meaning its water resistant and the camera batteries can last up to 3 and a half months on a single charge. You can also buy 2 additional cameras meaning you have 4 locations where you are protected.

As mentioned at a price of £367.99 you also get 12 months free of cloud recording and this is based on a 14-day loop. After the 12 months, you can either have 24-hour recording loop for free of continuing with the 14-day cloud recording loop for £43.99 for the year.

Features & Performance

The D-Link comes with 2 cameras in the box as mentioned that can be used both inside and outside and you also get the Wifi-Hub/base station that is used link the camera you are also given the following:

  • 2x Mounting brackets
  • Mounting Arm
  • MicroUSB Power Adapter
  • DC Power Adapter
  • Ethernet cable
  • Quick Install Guide

The Cameras are very simple to set up and the video quality is fantastic once set up it offers 1080 P full colour visual during the day and quality night vision up to about 15ft then images are a little less clear. The camera is charged by a micro-USB and pop magnetically into a half ball mount that can be screwed into the wall. The Battery itself in the camera cannot be removed unlike rival products but the battery life is incredible they can last up to 3 ½ months on a full charge that is running 24 hours a day.  I was very impressed!

I would need to use these longer and review a few times to see how often you might have to charge camera before you need to replace them but this is something I will update in the coming months.

You can view the camera by the supporting app( MyDlink) that you can download on your smartphone to view the areas whenever you wish but what I really like about this kit is you can connect to your smart assistants such as Google Assistant or Alexa and even IFTTT. What makes this product stand out is that you have a motion and noise detection so at any time as long as it’s in the field of vision the camera logs it and sends you a notification so you can check on your smartphone. This is stored for the 14 days with the premium plan you get free for a year after that if you want the same level of security it only costs £43.99 for the year which is nothing for knowing you have the best security set up in case you need it.

If you did not want to pay the yearly fee the captured footage is only then stored for 24 hours at a time and then the system overwrites the recorded footage. You can also download any recorded clip to your phone which in the case the police are called you can share your footage if required as it can be a real surprise what you catch on video.  I recently caught a car accident for my neighbour which really did help them out.

You also have more features with this kit if required the hub has a loud siren built into is which can hit 100 decibels that would scare someone off in a heartbeat when I tested this we checked the siren and you have my word it’s very loud. This can be turned on whenever you’re not home for a period of time. The camera also comes with a two-way microphone on the camera which can be handy to tell a salesperson to leave your property or tell a delivery person to store your parcel safely. Its also good to tell an unexpected person to leave the property as well.

So overall the D-Link wire-free camera kit is an excellent piece of kit that will keep most people safe and the cameras will not make your property look unsightly like some security camera might. The cost is £367.99 via Amazon and for a wire-free camera kit that has some many features seems a bargain as you can’t put a price on a safe home. The battery in the camera last up to 3 ½ months which is incredible and the years free premium cloud storage makes this great product. What I really like about this product and its something that would make me buy it is the fact it works with IFTTT automation that gets the camera working with other smart home devices such as it turns the lights on automatically when motion or sound is detected and will send an alert to these people you choose to be notified.

In our opinion, this is a 5-star product!
