You don’t even need to have owned an iPhone to know that battery life is far from the device’s strong point. It’s the bane of any iOS fan’s existence, and a source of endless gloating from those loyal to other platforms.
It turns out that in some cases, though, that short battery life isn’t intentional. As it happens, certain batches of the iPhone 5 have a genuine flaw with their internal battery.
To remedy this, Apple has issued a recall on any iPhone 5 handsets sold between September 2012 and January 2013. Just why it took one of the world’s biggest companies nearly two years to address the issue still remains a mystery.
The recall service is already live in the USA and China, and will be available in all other territories as of August 29th. The replacement service is free of charge.
To see if your iPhone 5 is eligible for a replacement battery simply head to this page on the Apple website. Enter your device’s serial number into the space provided and Apple will work it out for you.
Be sure to backup your data before sending your device away, and also be warned that if the screen is cracked then Apple may be forced to charge you for a repair before addressing the battery.
