Review: Plantronics BackBeat FIT 3100

Recently I had the chance to review the Plantronics Backbeat Fit 2100 ( Link) I have now been given the chance to test the next in the range the Backbeat Fit 3100. Well, the main difference is these have ear hooks to keep them in place and no round the neck cable apart from that they are the same nearly.

The Headphones as you might expect with sports headphones they are IP57 rated meaning they are sweatproof and waterproof. And comes with Bluetooth 5.0 so very similar to the Fit 2100. Plus both have the always aware feature that allows users to hear around them while using them.

The audio quality in the Fit 3100 is made up of 13.5 drivers and if the always active feature and your chilling after a workout they provide a nice bass, mid-range and the sound is also clear and not harsh so you will enjoy them for that.  Its when you come out of the house or go for a run you might question why you bought these. The always aware technology kicks in and you get a blend of outside noise and music and its not a pleasurable experience. You can get around this by increasing volume but that affects the music sound even more. The mid-range is not even there so it really does affect the sound quality.

Don’t get me wrong I think the Always Aware Technology is good as I don’t want to get hit by a car on a long run but hearing every single noise instead of quality audio this has disappointed me a bit.

In terms of how the Bluetooth has performed, it was a pleasant experience no Bluetooth headset/ headphones are perfect but I was running and did some work in the gym and they performed as expected and if you did get a cut out it was for a second if that.

The design is where you can see the cost here they are stored in a small case that doubles up as a charger. Remember your headphones hold 5 hours of charge and the case holds 2 full charges so that is 10 hours.  You can check the amount of battery with the little click of the button in the middle of where the headphones are held while in the case.

The earbuds are very easy to use with the left earbud is controlled but touch and you can use the app to customize what you want it to do as well as the volume.  The right earbud is the control station you will find the power, and the playback and track changes all held in one place.

So overall, These sports earbuds are great for training in a gym or if you love running. If you don’t mind some of the audio quality to be cut short due to the “always aware”  technology.  At £129.99 your getting good headphones I just personally hate the Always Aware technology that said it did win the CES 2019 Innovation Award so that puts me back in my place.
