Google’s Latitude location service has been available on Android and other smartphones for ages, but technical issues (and a rumoured block from Apple) kept it off iPhone.
No more, though: the app is now live.
It lets you track and be tracked by friends in real-time – it constantly transmits your location rather than relying on Foursquare-style ‘check-ins’. Everything is opt-in, so you have full control over who sees where you are. It works very well using iPhone’s background location API, but as with other versions, our main question remains this: what’s it really for?
