Xperia Z1S – the Z1 mini confirmed for global release?

We use the term Xperia Z1 mini quite a lot in the news, despite no such phone existing. In Japan, the smaller version of the device is known as the Z1 f. It hasn’t been announced for a global release yet, but leaks are suggesting that the smaller phone will hit worldwide and go by the name of the Xperia Z1S.

News leaker EV News says as much. The outlet’s twitter account has posted an image of the rumoured new phone, which we’ve included below. It looks pretty close to its bigger brother although, as Pocket Lint points out, the corners aren’t as rounded as the original Z1 f. If true then it will be armed with the Snapdragon 800 processor and a 20MP camera with Sony’s G Lens. That makes it pretty much feature-complete with the Z1, and the smaller size will likely be up many a person’s street.

When the Z1 f was confirmed for Japan is was confirmed to have a 3.7 inch display. The current standard Xperia has a 5 inch screen, so it’s quite a reduction.

Hopefully official news of the Xperia Z1S will be with us shortly.
