Sony hasn’t officially unveiled the Xperia Z1 yet, but it did accidentally send out a press release to the folks over at Xperia Blog, claiming that its new flagship will have the “world’s leading camera in a smartphone”.
The event is now less than an hour away but the press release does confirm everything we previously knew about the Xperia Z1 — including the 20.7MP G Lens camera.
The Xperia Z1, like its predecessor, will be waterproof — which is ideal for recording 1080p video under water.
The sensor on the Sony Xperia Z1 should be identical to most point and shoots, at a 1/2.3″ size — making it smaller than the Lumia 1020’s sensor.
With that huge sensor size, Sony has sacrificed the slim body of the Xperia Z, with the Z1 being 8.5mm thick, and weighing 170g.
It’s not all about the camera though, with a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and 4G LTE connectivity all included. That will of course be paired with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean as the operating system of choice, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage — expandable by micro SD of course.
There will also be a 3000mAh battery, meaning you should get plenty of great photos on just one charge.
Availability wasn’t announced in the press release, but it will be available black, white and purple — and you may even get a free SmartWatch 2!
