When Microsoft decided to lower the price of its Xbox One earlier this year in order to further compete with the more affordable PlayStation 4, it did this by releasing its console without a Kinect Sensor.

Now, further boosting the standalone status of the device, Microsoft has released a PC version of the Kinect Sensor, according to listings on the Microsoft Store.

The Kinect for Windows v2 Sensor, as it known, will cost £159in the UK and $199 in the US.

The device is primarily designed for developers to create voice and gesture-controlled applications and works with the Kinect for Windows software development kit (SDK) 2.0. It doesn’t ship with any software and will only work with Windows apps designed for the second generation device specifically.

Developers wishing to download the SDK – along with more information about the tools for devs – should head to the Kinect for Windows Dev Center.
