Windows Phone 8.1 to come on tablets

Let’s admit it, Windows RT hasn’t been best received — it’s woeful lack of apps being a major reason for the cold reception. If Microsoft could fix that issue, then it may be onto a winner, and one place it can find plenty of the apps that people love is on Windows Phone. According to Windows expert Paul Thurrott, Microsoft is preparing to allow screens of up to 10 inches to run the Windows Phone operating system.

It’s well known that the next version of the Windows Phone operating system, GDR3, will be extending support to 5- and 6-inch displays, but Windows Phone 8.1 will add both 7- and 10-inch displays to that roster.

Microsoft seems to remain committed to Windows RT, which means it may have trouble selling OEMs on Windows Phone for tablets, although the ultimate goal is to merge the operating systems, something that Windows Phone 8.1 will bring closer in Spring 2014.
