Wileyfox update will patch Cyanogen operating system to protect against the vulnerability known as ‘Quadrooter.’
Android suffered a big blow the other week when a serious vulnerability was found in all Qualcomm chipsets. The bug has been dubbed Quadrooter and was discovered by security firm Check Point. The company says that the bug could affect up to 900m Android phones, including popular handsets such as Samsung, Motorola and LG devices.
The decision to patch the problem has been left up to the manufacturers of the handsets themselves, since the issue is specific to each model of phone. For companies with a high amount of device fragmentation, a fix could take a long time and may only be available for newer, currently supported handsets.
Wileyfox update is rolling out now
Blackberry was the first company to patch their devices, recently giving the DTEK 50 and Priv security updates which solve the issue. Today, Wileyfox has also joined in, with the Cyanogen OS getting an update to 13.1.2. The exact patch version is 13.1-ZNH2KAS29G and reportedly fixes the Quadrooter bug, as well as providing an additional security patch from Google. The manufacturer has consistently used this modified Android OS on their handsets since launching in 2015, citing security as one of the prime reasons.
The Wileyfox update will be a gradual one, slowly releasing to users over the next few days. If you have a device from the manufacturer, keep your eyes peeled.
