The new trailer for one of the most anticipated Nintendo Wii U titles has arrived.
Mario Kart 8 is due to be released on 30 May and Nintendo is keen to show its updated take on retro tracks from the Mario Kart cannon and new items and features in this new clip.
By the looks of things, Mario Kart 64 seems to be getting a significant amount of love (and why not? it was a beloved game after all).
Although retro tracks have become a traditional part of the series these new remakes have seen more significant change than usual thanks to both the greatly improved graphics of the Wii U version and the fact that you can now race upside down in anti-gravity mode.
The updated tracks include Rainbow Road, Royal Raceway, and Toad’s Turnpike from Mario Kart 64, plus Moo Moo Meadows (a remake of Moo Moo Farm on the N64) from Mario Kart Wii. Also included are Donut Plains 3 from the original Super Mario Kart on the SNES and Cheep Cheep Beach from Mario Kart DS.
There’s also confirmation of a number of new items, including the Piranha Plant from Super Mario 3D World, a boomerang, and a coin-doubling power-up. There are also newly confirmed returning characters in Metal Mario, Lakitu, and Shy Guy.
Nintendo has stated that the game will run at 1080p and 60 frames per second in single-player mode, but only 30 frames per second in multiplayer (we assume split screen).
