The mobile gaming landscape already boasts a number of excellent console ports like Bastion, Limbo, The Walking Dead and XCOM: Enemy Unknown, there is still a lack of any truly large PC titles adapted to the format.
Developer Taleworlds Entertainment looks like it is about to change all that with the release of its mobile port of PC game Mount & Blade to Android devices via Nvidia’s powerful Tegra 4 processor.
Unfortunately, that restricts the title to gamers who own Nvidia’s Shield gaming handheld and a small number of Android tablets like the HP Slate 7 Extreme.
But Mount & Blade is the real deal – rather than a miniaturised remake – with an open world ripe for conquest by sword, bow, spear, and lance, plus 64-player online multiplayer matches, and full character customisation.
Although Mount & Blade was never a graphically impressive series of games even on PC, it packs in way more features than your average mobile game title and commentators have stated that it is a surprisingly fun port.
More importantly, however, it could mark a milestone in the way traditional game developers treat mobile platforms going forward.
