We’re always looking out for bargains here at What Mobile, and if you’re in the market for a mobile phone but don’t care about all the bells and whistles, then Asda might have the best deal for you.

The Alcatel 1010, a super basic phone ideal for the odd call or text, is available at the retailer for just five pounds, yes that’s not a typo — it’s just five british sterling. For five pounds, you can actually get one hundred of these things before you get to the price of a modern day smartphone — imagine how many christmas presents you could fulfill!

It’s not as basic as the phones of yesteryear either, it has a 1.45-inch colour screen, a built-in MP3 player and FM Radio, and best of all weighs just 59g — beat that Apple.

The phone is tied to the T-Mobile network, but it’s not like most of the other budget phones which force you into a minimum top-up, which means this literally does cost just five pounds. What are you waiting for?
