To mark the one year anniversary of its super fast mobile broadband network, Vodafone has extended its 4G offering to prepay customers.

Customers can choose from three Red Freedom Freebees. For £20 they will receive 500 minutes, unlimited texts and 2GB of data. Those choosing a £30 or £40 Freedom Freebee will receive unlimited calls, texts and 4GB or 6GB of data respectively.

The two more expensive packages offer either Spotify Premium or Sky Sports Mobile TV. In addition, any customer taking a Freedom Freebee on 4G will for the first time receive unlimited data for the first 30 days. At the end of the period, customers can assess how much data they have used and choose the deal that best suits their needs.

Vodafone is also offering customers deals on its own-branded Smart 4 Turbo and Smart 4 Power 4G smartphones. The Smart 4 Turbo costs £79, which Vodafone said makes it the most affordable 4G smartphone on the market. The Smart 4 Power, Vodafone’s flagship 4G smartphone, costs £120.

One year since launch, Vodafone has more than one million 4G customers, with its network now covering 304 towns and cities, as well as thousands of smaller communities across the UK.

It said that contract customers on its 4G plans, on average, use three times the amount of data than 3G customers, although it has yet to provide figures to compare this against. Customers that have chosen Spotify as part of their plan have listened to more than 20 hours of music each month.

Vodafone UK consumer director Cindy Rose said: “Over the past year we’ve already signed up well over a million Pay monthly customers to our 4G service and are now opening up this great opportunity to our prepay customers.”
