Vivo has today announced a new handset that according to promotional material… looks totally transparent.
The company released a teaser poster to highlight the new device, held by their new pin-up boy Song Zhongji, a South Korean actor and model. Everything on the poster seems to talk about the number “7” quite a bit, meaning that the handset will probably include this in the name somewhere. Vivo released a slew of devices just this April, so it will be interesting where this mysterious handset fits within their line.
Aside from this, there’s currently very little to go on right now, but we can make a few solid assumptions from the image. Firstly, you can see part of Song’s face through the device, which leads us to believe it will be transparent. Secondly, as it’s a Vivo, you can probably expect some fairly ludicrous hardware, as the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has already made quite a name for themselves with powerful handsets that incorporate innovative features.
Is a transparent phone actually possible?
Here’s the problem though. While we might all be hoping that the age of Ironman is upon us, where holograms and transparent supercomputers in our pocket become the norm, the actual concept of building a truly transparent handset is pretty much impossible right now. While you could theoretically have part of the device transparent, there still needs to be a place for the hardware components to go. Things like the battery, speakers and sim tray will not be transparent, so quite how much of this poster turns out to be true… remains to be seen.
It would be incredibly optimistic to say that this a legitimate device, but we’ll happily hold our breath as it would probably be the most pioneering handset ever to release should it turn out to be true.
