UMi Super can survive 2 metre drop and stilettos

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Umi has released a new video demonstrating the destructive resilience of the new ‘Super’ handset.

The handset already caught our attention because of the impressive hardware but now it seems that it’s pretty tough too. The Umi Super has a full metal unibody comprised of ‘Aerospace class’ Aluminium, meaning it should be light yet very durable.

In the video we see various drop tests from differing heights. The last one reaches 2 metres, which is the claimed drop strength for many rugged handsets. The second test has has a woman walking directly over the screen in stiletto heels, a sight that is sure to cause many tech enthusiasts great discomfort. Impressively, the device survives without so much as a scratch.

All of the tests were done with the device landing screen-side down, which is fine, but we would’ve also like to seen some of it landing on the back and side. The corners especially are major stress points for handsets and tend to cause the screen to crack.

‘Super’ powered

In terms of features, the Super comes equipped with a MediaTek Helio P10 chip clocked at 2.0Ghz and 4GB RAM, plus a very large 4000mAh battery. This is all crammed into a 5.5-inch device with a Sharp 2.5D screen. Other highlights include 13 megapixel rear sensor from Panasonic and USB-C with quick charging support. There’s also a fingerprint scanner and stock Android 6.0, the latter of which is quite a big deal.
