Broadband speeds more than 10 times faster than the local average arrive in the Scottish city

Virgin Media has completed the rollout of its ultrafast broadband network in Inverclyde. The installation of the hyperfast broadband will provide more than 4,800 residents and businesses with the fastest widely available speeds in the UK.

The rollout will bring the quality of broadband in the area to top speeds of 516Mbps in an area where the average download speed was previously 50Mpbs.

The company is also be bringing gigabit broadband to its entire network of 15 million homes by the end of 2021 as part of its new hyperfast Gig1 service.

Inverclyde will also benefit from fibre to the premises (FTP) technology which will allow for smooth connectivity from home. A standard HD 5GB movie file can be downloaded in less than a minute and a half with the new broadband and a 25GB console game will take just seven minutes to download.

On the previous average broadband speed, movies would take more than 14 minutes and a console game would take more than an hour to download.

Virgin Media build director for Scotland, Northern Ireland and North East Colin Brown said: “We know how important ultrafast and reliable broadband is to so many aspects of modern-day living, so it’s great news for the local people and businesses in Inverclyde that we’ve now finished our expansion in the area.

“More than 4,800 homes and premises now have access to the UK’s fastest widely available network, which means they can do all the things they love and need to do more easily and more quickly.”
