UMi London survives 100ft drop test in new vid

Chinese smartphone manufacturer UMi subjected their newest London handset to a 100ft drop test to show its rugged durability.

UMi has been on a roll recently with plenty of interesting marketing videos demonstrating their new London handset. The latest in their range sees the manufacturer dropping the smartphone from an office window – at a height they claim is 100ft.

Okay, so the device is in a protective case when they drop it but this is still an impressive test nonetheless. UMi actually ship a specially designed rugged case for the handset that you can purchase separately on top of the phone and it seems to work quite well.

100ft drop test… in a protective case

When the London was thrown from the window, it pretty much remains intact aside from a cracked screen. The phone itself still appears to function perfectly fine, though eagle-eyed YouTube commentators have claimed that the jump cuts question the legitimacy of the video.

In terms of general hardware, the UMi London is a budget device that costs just $49.99 (£37.71), yet the hardware and design seem to defy expectations. The panel is a 1280 x 720 Sharp display and the processor is a 1.3 GHz MediaTek MT6580, roughly comparable to the Snapdragon 410. RAM is a low 1GB and internal storage is only 8GB, though this can be expanded via microSD. The handset runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0 directly out of the box and comes with a 2,050mAh battery, which isn’t too shabby for a budget smartphone.
