TiVo app now allows streaming outside of your house

The TiVo app on iOS has had an upgrade, adding some major new features to the service.

Most notable is the ability to now stream shows from your box in any area with Wi-Fi. Previously this could only be done in your house, limiting the app to viewing from other rooms. With the update the world is now your oyster.

There’s also a new video quality meter built into the app, letting you know when the video you’re playing is about to get choppy. That’s going to be a pretty useful feature when using the service in bandwidth-lite areas. There’s also partial download support, so you can start watching as soon as a portion of your video is downloaded. Of course, you’ll only be able to watch shows you’ve recorded on your TiVo box, so don’t expect this to be the new Netflix or anything.

It’s available now, though those with older TiVo boxes will have to wait until later in November for the chance to use it.
