Stephen Elop and Alan Mulally on shortlist for Microsoft’s next CEO

Microsoft could have just narrowed down its search for the company’s next CEO, with Reuters reporting that it has whittled down the number of potential candidates to five, with Nokia’s former CEO Stephen Elop and Ford’s current CEO Alan Mulally both making the list. Of course just because the list is down to just five names doesn’t mean that we should expect a new CEO announcement next week, with the process likely to take a few more months — and it’s not like Ballmer is going anywhere anytime soon.

Microsoft supposedly started with 40 candidates for CEO, but has now reduced that number to just five, with former Skype CEO Tony Bates and Microsoft’s head of cloud and enterprise, Satya Nadella.
