Steam Controller tosses the touchscreen in favor of more buttons

Valve’s Steam Controller, a, upcoming game pad designed for use with its extensive digital library, has ditched its touchscreen.

The company has apparently revealed as much at its Steam Dev Days event. The touchscreen, which originally sat in the middle of the device, has been swapped out in favor of traditional directional and face buttons.

The switch was apparently made to keep the controller backwards compatible with exisiting Steam games. That, and Valve reasoned that it was proving to be a distraction.

We still don’t know when the Steam Controller will be made available to the public. With its unique trackpads replacing the standard analog sticks of other controllers, we’re eager to give it a go.
