Adaia, a 16 man company founded by ex-Nokia consultant Heikki Sarajärvi have declared their plans to launch a premium smartphone in the UK, USA and Finland next year.
The company’s mission statement is to create a smartphone that can cope with the challenges posed by extreme conditions. Their website declares that they set out to create a phone that “had to be shockproof, hack-proof, sea waterproof (down to 10 meters), altitude proof (up to 9000 meters)” and was able to connect anywhere in the world.
It’s these features that lead to the high price tag; anywhere between $1300 and $6500. Pictures of the device have yet to be released but Finnish publications Digitoday were able to release some sketchy information on a prototype. Apparently the device has a 4.8inch screen and will eventually be able to have it’s batteries switched without having to turn off the device.
In addition to the high price this phone sounds likely to be something of a beast in the weight department with the model eventually set to end up between 240-250 grams.
