Sony has added to its range of uniquely-designed touchscreen tablets with the launch of the Xperia Tablet S – a 9.4-inch Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich device powered by a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor.

Launched at IFA in Berlin the Sony Xperia Tablet S features a slim aluminium chassis and includes a splash-proof design to keep it safe from accidental spills.

Its 9.4-inch touchscreen utilises an 800 x 1280 pixel resolution and both an 8-Megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1-Megapixel front-facing camera are in place for snapping photos and recording video.

An Nvidia Tegra 3 processor provides quad-core power and a choice of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB of storage is on offer. There is also a MicroSD card slot and HDMI connectivity for connecting to an HDTV.

There is no word yet on exact UK pricing or release dates, but the Sony Xperia Tablet S is scheduled for a European launch in September 2012.
