Due to the Galaxy Note 7 recall earlier last week, analyst are predicting Samsung to bring forward the release of the S8.
The global recall of the Galaxy Note 7 is serious. Injuries have been reported and massive destruction to properties has been linked to Samsung’s latest handset. Samsung has identified the fault to be in the Note 7’s battery. An anonymous Samsung official, speaking to Yonhap News, said: “Products installed with the problematic battery account for less than 0.1 percent of the entire volume sold.”
Be that as it may, trust between Samsung and consumers has been damaged. The trust will have to be rebuilt, so it’s a good thing Samsung did not leave it later to officiate a full-scale recall.
Now it’s rumoured the Korean manufacturer are looking to limit damages to sales figures, by releasing the Galaxy S8 sooner. Samsung’s ‘S’ series usually sees an unveiling at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. But seeing as Samsung are looking to lose out on profits, due to the recall, it’s not an option to rule out.
“Smartphone demands have polarised: advanced and emerging markets, and premium and budget phones,” said Kim Sang-pyo, an analyst at KB Investment & Securities.
“If Samsung’s flagship smartphone launch is delayed to the end of the first quarter of next year, the profitability of the mobile business division could be worsened next year.”
It’s a move for Samsung to consider. The manufacturer are expected to resume sale of the Note 7 in Korea, on September 19th. The west is likely to see the Note 7 again in October, with replacements also to be sent out.
