Samsung has responded to claims that a significant number of its Galaxy S5 handsets are reportedly suffering from a camera glitch.
In an email statement to Reuters, Samsung said that a ‘very limited’ number of S5 devices had been affected by camera issues.
The issue, which is being blamed on on problems with the handset’s read only memory (ROM), results in a popup error message reading: “Warning: Camera failed.” Samsung added that measures had been taken to ensure new shipments of the smartphone will not be affected.
US mobile operator Verizon notified its users of the problem on Twitter. It gave them a clue about what to watch out for, and an address to contact if their handsets are affected.
Galaxy S5 customers who see “Warning: Camera Failed” please contact @VZWsupport & we’ll work to resolve it, including replacing the device.

Fixes will depend on the issue and the handset, and Verizon said that some punters might be in line for a hardware replacement.
Users at the XDA Developer Forum were quick to report on the bug, with some stating that they were experiencing it.
Here’s what one dev named Lilsalmon had to say about his affected device: “Returned mine yesterday for a replacement. Factory reset [three] times and even had the Samsung rep wipe it from scratch with Samsung image. No dice. Said it was a hardware failure.”
No problems have surfaced outside the States as of yet. Therefore, the only assistance available thus far is in the US. Online reports have the firm providing a contact number and information for US consumers – who are encouraged to phone 1-888-987-4357 if they want to arrange an exchange.
