As reported in Mobile News representatives for CompareMyMobile have claimed that the value of old handsets has increased fourfold since 2009 to an average of £108. The comparison site also claimed prices for phone recycling can differ by up to 20 percent between vendors. Recycling phones and tablet devices has grown rapidly as an industry in recent years as the shelf live of the average handset has shrunk and demand for the materials, such as rare metals used in electronics, has grown.
The price comparison website claims to have made its customers £46.6 million and saved them £20 million by helping them the best prices on trade-ins for recycled phones, tablet devices and other gadgets since its launch in 2009.
Apple hold the lions share of the recycling market with around 35% of recycled devices coming from the US manufacturer.
