Qualcomm backtracks on iPhone 5s processor complaint

The 64-bit Apple A7 processor inside the iPhone 5s was called a gimmick by Anand Chandrasekher, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at Qualcomm, just last week, but it seems that the company wants to distance itself from such comments.  According to a company spokesperson Anand Chandrasekher comments about 64-bit computing were ‘inaccurate’.

Clearly Qualcomm is working on its own 64-bit processor, and doesn’t want to be seen as adopting a gimmick, especially since it would make marketing the thing a lot harder.

According to the spokesperson: “The mobile hardware and software ecosystem is already moving in the direction of 64-bit; and the evolution to 64-bit brings desktop class capabilities and user experiences to mobile, as well as enabling mobile processors and software to run new classes of computing devices.”

With Samsung also promising a 64-bit processor, it’s no surprise that Qualcomm wants to avoid hitting out at Apple, as the Cupertino-based tech giant currently relies on Samsung for its chips, something it is desperate to change.
