Phonescheme offers a way to buy a new handset without crying about your bank balance the day after.
What is Phonescheme? Those who have taken advantage of Cyclescheme will know full well how this works. Basically you’re getting your boss to pay for your new phone… kind of. Phonescheme is run by the same company who run the successful Cyclescheme. Both schemes offer employees the chance to make a high quality purchase, and have it taken out of their paychecks, instead of feeling the full whack.
Cyclescheme claims you can save from 22% to 42% across a range of popular and new handsets: iPhone 6s, S7 edge, Lumia 950 and more from Samsung and Microsoft.
How does it work?
Your employer will have to sign up for the scheme. Once they do your handset will be paid outright and lend it back to you as a tax-free benefit by recovering the cost from your gross salary, across 12-months.
At the end of the 12-months you can buy the device at 25% the original cost of the device, extend it for another 12-months (10% of the original cost) or return it.
Break it down now
The following figures are based on someone taxed at the basic rate buying a 32GB Galaxy S7 edge. The prices were correct in March, when the data was collected.
For those that want a contract with their device, without Phonescheme it works out like this: £49.99 up front + £49.00 monthly tariff x 24 months = £1,225.99
With Phonescheme you stand to make a substantial saving: £0 up front + 12 x £37.06 net payments, 1 x £63.90 End of Hire fee and 24 x £20.90 monthly SIM only deal = £970.38
Don’t worry if you’re still in a contract, you can use the scheme for just a device. A 32GB S7 edge is £639, using Phonescheme could get you Samsung’s latest and greatest for significantly less: £0 up front + 12 x £37.06 net payments and 1 x £63.90 End of Hire = £508.62
Bring it up at your next meeting
If you’re lucky enough to wear whatever you want at work, maybe drop the that expensive streetwear for the day and get your suit cleaned. Schedule a meeting with the powers that be and deliver the best damn presentation you can.
