After months of speculating HTC has finally confirmed the M10 with a focus on enhancing key areas.

Refinement seems to be the key focus for HTC’s new flagship device. The HTC 10 got a massive design revamp just as suspected. Chamfered edges run along the back, reaffirming the curve back trend that seems to be infecting manufacturers.

The HTC 10 will be the first smartphone in the world to have optical image stabilisation (OIS) in both rear and front-facing cameras.

The front-facing camera which HTC has trademarked as an “UltraSelfie” camera, promises to deliver sharp images in low light with a screen flash and wide angle f/1.8 lens.

The rear-camera was a much maligned area in the M9, the HTC 10 will have 12 megapixels (UltraPixels) with 2nd generation laser autofocus, as well as OIS and a f/1.8 lens. Currently the HTC 10 is tied with the S7 as the best camera smartphone on DxOMark, with a score of 88. DxOMark test image and video quality of cameras of phones to professional DSLR cameras. If you haven’t heard of them, just know they’re a big deal.

4k video recording is also available which works in unison with the world’s first 24-bit Hi-Res audio recording (in a smartphone). HTC claim their new audio recording will enable capturing 256 times more audio detail.

Ever recorded a live performance to never watch it again? HTC aim to change that with the HTC 10.

Boom boom boom shake the room…

We all loved the dual-front facing speakers HTC usually provides in their flagship devices but as suspected it’s gone. But HTC haven’t forgotten their strength in the audio area and still aim to please all you audiophiles out there. Included in the HTC 10 is a digital audio converter (DAC) capable of upscaling to 24-bit.

It’s nothing new, the A9 has the same DAC but very few phones include a DAC. Samsung were rumoured to include one in the S7, only to disappoint, slightly. To ensure you experience the intended audio quality, the Hi-Res audio certified earphones will be included.

HTC will introduced their new Personal Audio Profile System. It basically attunes to your hearing levels, adjust frequencies, to offer the experience artists intend.

Quick access

A fingerprint sensor is the expected standard and the HTC 10 will include one. You can access the HTC 10 in 0.2 seconds, which can learn to recognise your fingerprint sensor faster and more accurately with algorithms.

As for the specs the HTC 10 is unsurprisingly using the Snapdragon 820, 4GB of RAM and expandable memory via microSD up to 2TB. Just as leaked yesterday. There will be a second variant with a lower Snapdragon processor for emerging markets.

The screen sees an upgrade to 5.2-inches from the 5-inches seen on the M9. Interestingly the HTC 10 will sport a USB-C port, which supports Quick Charge 3.0, capable of charging 50% in 30 minutes. The battery capacity will be 3000 mAh, just like the S7.

The HTC 10 will be available early May in: Carbon Grey, Glacier Silver, Topaz Gold and Camellia Red. An actual release date is yet to be confirmed.
