CEO Carl Pei has announced OnePlus will get rid of the invite system to purchase the OnePlus 2.
CEO Carl Pei said in a blog post “we are always trying to enhance the OnePlus experience for you and taking risks to push ourselves and show real improvements. That’s why we’re making the OnePlus 2 invite-free ¦ forever!”
The OnePlus 2 was only released in August and demand for the device was extremely high for the young Chinese manufacturer. OnePlus will celebrate their second birthday on the 17th of December, the move to remove invites is a sign of maturing and growth for OnePlus. The invite system has been beneficial in gaining media and consumer attention, also a contributing factor to the company’s success. Starting on December 5th, consumer will be able to purchase the OnePlus 2. For £289, the OnePlus 2 boasts “flagship killer” specs; 64GB of internal memory that can be expanded via microSD, 4GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 810 processor and a 5.5 inch screen covered in Gorilla Glass 4.
OnePlus’ latest release the OnePlus X will retain the invite system, but an invite free weekend will come on the 5-7th of December, for those looking to purchase OnePlus’ debut mid-range entry. A perfect opportunity for anyone looking to purchase a really good Christmas gift.
Carl Pei said in an interview with International Business Times that the aim for the next five years is to simply survive. “In the coming three to five years it is as much about survival as it is about growth. If we can grow at a healthy pace — not too fast, not too slow — while we survive, I think that’s a great goal for the next few years.”
