It feels like it never left, didn’t it? Thanks to an absolute ocean of fakes, knock-offs, rip-offs, homages, hybrids and clones there has been an unending crap-storm of Flappy Bird-esque titles ever since the original was taken down in February. ‘Fortunately’ you won’t have to put up with them for much longer. The original is making a comeback.

In an interview with American television network CNBC, Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen revealed that he would be releasing a new version of the game – one that’s “less addictive”, and also with a multiplayer mode (if you’ll remember, Nguyen said that the reason he pulled the original title was that it was  too addictive, and was harmful for gamers).

Whilst we may have exhausted the, admittedly fun, game ourselves, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t intrigued by the proposition of a multiplayer mode. It’s rather hard to imagine how it could work, but at least Nguyen is trying something new.

Nguyen stated that the original was downloaded 50 million times before he removed it from sale, which is mighty impressive. This new version will hit app stores at some point in August. We’re sure you’ll join us in waiting with baited breath.
