The first three modern Grand Theft Auto titles are now available on Amazon Kindle Fire and Fire TV

It seems Amazon is finally upping the ante with gaming on their devices, as it has announced that three of the most popular games of a generation are now available on its Kindle Fire tablet and Fire TV set-top box.

Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas are all available to purchase individually for £4.99 each. This is great news for Kindle gamers, who have surely been growing frustrated with the wide availability of the titles on other platforms for such a long time. It’s a nice change of pace for Fire TV owners too, who up until this point have had little reason to consider buying one of the £23 compatible games controllers.

What’s more, those who buy one of the titles will receive 2,000 Amazon Coins which can be used as credit in the Amazon Appstore. With 100 coins equalling £1 in credit, that’s actually a pretty remarkable deal.

Chances are it won’t be enough to entice you into buying a Fire TV outright, but it could be a sign of things to come in the box’s not-too-distant future. The box is primarily intended for streaming, supporting services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Instant Video, but unlike other streaming boxes it also supports (a limited range of) Android apps. The device isn’t out in the UK just yet, but it won’t be long until its inevitable release and, when it does eventually land, it will give those interested in other devices like Chromecast a serious decision to make.
