O2 UK’s service goes down, comes back up

O2 UK apparently had a little bit of trouble with its service today, and you might have noticed. Well, there’s a small chance you might have noticed.

Customers started reporting network problems last night, with the situation quickly becoming labeled as a network outage. Complaints started popping up on the web, ranging from the lack of a data network to the likes of no signal. O2 UK has since restored the network, apologising for any issues caused throughout the time. The company explained that the problems stemmed from routine maintenance.

It stated: “Routine upgrade work on our 2G and 3G networks led to unexpected congestion affecting around 1% of O2 customers. We apologise to those customers and thank them for their patience.”

This marks the third network outage for the company in the last 18 months, albeit a minor one. The last reports of similar issues date back to last October and July 2012. Both instances were a bit more serious than this incident.
