Nvidia Shield sequel gets cancelled due to ‘business reasons’ after company contacts Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requesting removal.
Today is a sad day for gaming tablet users after the highly affordable yet powerful Nvidia Shield tablet has been cancelled. The Nvidia Shield K1 was an excellent device with plenty of power and that much touted Tegra K1 chipset. It received strong reviews from critics, who praised it for the ability to stream PC games direct to the device.
The announcement of its cancellation comes after the company sent an open letter to the FCC requesting the application for their upcoming Nvidia Shield 2 tablet be retracted. The letter doesn’t go into detail about their decision to pull the device, other than citing ‘business reasons’.
The bottom of the letter is signed off by Charles Jackson, Compliance Engineering Manger for Nvidia.
Nvidia Shield sequel is gone… but what about Shield TV?
While this does mean that the tablet successor has been cancelled, the letter doesn’t include any indication of the Shield TV meeting a similar fate. The set-top box arrived just over a year ago and there hasn’t been much word on its successor, though it seems Nvidia has no plans to cancel that project just yet.
