Nokia taking on Lytro with post-refocusing

If you’ve ever heard of Lytro, and if you’re a long reader of What Mobile then you probably should have — given it’s the darling of the editorial team — but now we might have an easier way of getting cool photos that you can refocus after they’re taken, thanks to Nokia.

After the company acquired Scalado we had assumed that the technology was coming, but we have been waiting since 2012 to hear something solid. Now Nokia is ready to launch its new camera app called Refocus Lens which will use “clever algorithms” to change the focus after the shot is taken.

Refocus will debut on the Lumia 1520 and 1020, but won’t be able to use full resolution photos, and instead will use a 5-megapixel image. If you don’t have one of those then don’t worry, as Nokia will be bringing it to just about all of its Windows Phone 8 devices in the future.
