Nokia fans and industry analysts alike were all looking ahead to the Mobile World Congress for the fallen Finnish giants to shake things up. Surely Nokia had something planned to get people talking about them once again.

Well how’s this for an announcement? A smartphone that costs  less than £25.

As Nokia put it, their entry-level smartphone is designed to connect ‘the next billion’. As discussed in a previous What Mobile Podcast, Nokia’s move towards the ever-expanding emerging markets was widely regarded as a sound one. This latest announcement takes it to a whole other level.

The Nokia 220 will have a 2.4 inch display, a two megapixel camera and 2G connectivity.

Nokia executive vice president of devices and services Stephen Elop said the device “sets a new standard for desirable first mobile phones”.
