Motorola won’t kill the Moto G

Realising how silly it would be to do so, Lenovo has done a U-Turn and won’t be killing the Moto G.

Lenovo will still be slowly getting rid of the Motorola brand, but they won’t be killing the Motorola phone that have proven to be quite popular recently. Earlier reports indicated Lenovo will discontinue the Moto G and E lines as part of the phasing out of the Motorola brand.

Motorola told The Verge it was a misunderstanding and it would not make sense to kill those lines. “Although we are simplifying the combined Motorola and [Lenovo] portfolio, we have no plans to retire Moto G, our most successful smartphone, or Moto E,” a Motorola representative says.

The confusion seems to be coming from Motorola and Lenovo committing to “streamline” the production of Moto and Vibe, meaning we can expect less devices as the two slowly join. It’s quality over quantity, Motorola has wowed consumers so far this year with the Moto X Force and Moto G 3rd gen. We will still see devices like the afromentioned but with a different brand (maybe, maybe not) and a new UI.
