If you already thought that Minecraft was absolutely everywhere, then you were wrong. That’s because it’s set to arrive on three new platforms this August – Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PS Vita. But the good news doesn’t stop there!
Further cementing their nice guy reputation, the fellas at Mojang are offering some neat incentives for those who already own the game. The most eye catching offer goes to owners of the PlayStation 3 version. If you purchased the digital download of the title from the PlayStation Store then you’ll get the PS Vita version completely free. That’s pretty good. They’re working on bringing the offer to those who purchased a physical copy, too.
Alternatively, if you’re a PS3 gamer with a Vita and don’t own a copy of the game yet, you’ll be able to purchase a bundle including both titles for $19.99 (no word on UK or international pricing as yet). Saved games will also be transferrable from platform to platform, and any DLC you might have already purchased for the PS3 version will be available on your Vita.
For PlayStation aficionados who’ve already upgraded to the PS4 but have been left jonesing for their Minecraft fix thus far, if you’ve already purchased the PS3 edition you will be able to purchase the PS4 edition at a reduced ‘upgrade’ cost of $4.99 (alternatively, you can pay $19.99 for it outright if you didn’t own the last generation’s version). PS3 and Vita save files will also be transferrable to the PS4 edition, but not vice-versa.
A similar deal goes for Xbox users. If you own the Minecraft Xbox 360 edition, and have either digitally downloaded it or played a physical copy online, you will be able to upgrade to the Xbox One version for just $4.99. Saves will be transferrable from 360 to One games but, again, not the other way around.
Shy of that aforementioned August window we don’t know any specifics of the release date, but as it will be available as a digital download you can expect a global release date.
