Samsung has today taken the wraps off a new mid-range chip, the Exynos 7870, which is built on their new 14nm manufacturing process.

In terms of raw specs, it seems to be identical to the earlier Exynos 7580, aside from the smaller manufacturing process. Naturally, this should allow for lower heat emission and hopefully better performance. Samsung is promising 30% less power consumption than previous 28nm versions. The slight clock speed bump to 1.7GHz means that it is experiencing a boost from those lower thermal temperatures, though it’s slightly less than we’d hoped.

Aside from this, it’s much the same as the 7580, with support for LPDDR3 RAM and a Cat.6 LTE modem. Camera sensors up to 16 megapixels are supported with 1080p at 60fps as the max supported video size, as are screen resolutions up to 1920 x 1200.
