Microsoft might not as dominant a force in our industry as it is in others, but that hasn’t stopped the company making a lot of money. The Microsoft fiscal Q1 results are out, and they’re record-breaking.
Overall the company reported $18.53 billion in revenue over the period, which ended on September 30th. Last year the company recorded $16 billion, so it’s a fair growth. Net income came in at $5.24 billion, while operating income hit $6.33 billion. We’ll give you a second to get your head round those numbers. All arms of the corporation recorded growth, with the business department scoring the most at $5.99 billion. Then came the Windows arm at $4.47 billion and finally the entertainment arm came to $2 billion.
The company also made note of its increasing Surface sales, which initially set the company back at launch. The Surface RT was said to be selling better than the Pro model. The Surface 2 models hit this week, so expect there to be more growth in this sector in the months to come.
So Microsoft fiscal Q1 is good, very good. How will the rest of the company’s financial year shape up with major releases like the Xbox One?
Microsoft recently waved goodbye to CEO Steve Balmer, and is currently awaiting a new leader to take the reigns.
