Mass release of the Sony Xperia Z2 has been delayed, but pre-orders will be upheld

Sony has confirmed that they’re struggling to meet its promised April release date for its new top-end smartphone the Xperia Z2. The Japanese giant cites production issues behind the lack of available units, but they’ve also vowed to make sure any pre-orders placed for the handset will be fulfilled on time.

A spokesperson said, “Xperia Z2 will be available in the UK during April and we are expecting to deliver to all consumers who have placed a pre-order through our key partners.

“We are working tirelessly to maximise stock levels in April but currently we do not expect to meet the high demand across all our sales channels.”

Recent rumours have placed the blame on a third-party manufacturer responsible for the production of one of the Z2’s components. Their error means that the production of the entire handset has slowed down – presuming the rumours are true, of course.

At least potential buyers will only have to wait until May for it though, which still might be earlier than the Samsung Galaxy S5. It seems that the real winner out of all this is HTC – combine the rave reviews for the One M8 (check out next month’s issue of What Mobile Magazine for our own) with its early release date and the odds seem to be firmly stacked in its favour.
