London Eye gets Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 upgrade

January 25, 2012

The London Eye today revealed a new look and a high-tech overhaul of each capsule. Visitors to the landmark tourist attraction will now find six Samsung Galaxy Tabs installed in each of the 32 capsules. Each tablet is encased in a chunky white surround to match the design of the capsule and to prevent impressed visitors running away with the tablets.

Each tablet runs a custom Android app, designed to show visitors an interactive London skyline, unique to the position and location of the tablet. Scroll across the landscape image and you can tap on 44 points of interest to learn more about the landmarks. It’s impressive and of major
benefit for Samsung – over 3.5 million people board the
London Eye each year.

The landscape and 3D landmark images are complimented by time-lapse 24 hour video used within the app. Wi-fi on the London Eye will launch at the end of the month and dedicated London Eye apps will launch in February, covering photo tutorials, showing visitors how to take better shots.

Impressed? You can book tickets at the London Eye website with a 10% online discount and follow the London Eye Twitter feed to get the first impressions of the new technology…
