Trademark applications at the European Intellectual Property Office suggest that LG could be once again developing its own chipset.
The last time LG developed its own chipset was way back on the LG G3 Screen, which was exclusive to the South Korean market. It shipped with an LG-developed NUCLUN processor that proved to be quite disappointing. Despite having the raw power, it couldn’t compete on power optimisation or heat dissipation. The chipset regularly overheated when under load and had to drastically underclock, causing irregular performance for users.
The latest trademarks point to the existence of an LG KROMAX processor and LG EPIK Processor. The former sounds like a power-efficient model, while the latter sounds like a flagship variant.
