The Apple iPhone 5 pre-orders have started but if you’re truly looking to take advantage of Apple’s fastest smartphone yet you’ll be wanting the iPhone 5 LTE version, which will initially appear on EE and later on Three here in the UK.
The iPhone 5 is a 4-inch smartphone with aluminium body, which runs iOS 6 and comes in a choice of two colour schemes – Black and Slate or White and Silver. What’s more, along with three different internal storage capacities, there are likely to be up to three different 4G LTE versions on offer.
For UK customers the first option will be to opt for EE, an amalgam of T-Mobile and Orange. The company has announced its LTE 4G network here in the UK and its intention to sell the iPhone 5, but the service won’t actually be up and running when the iPhone 5 hits stores on the 21st September.
Instead, you’ll have to purchase your new handset through either Orange or T-Mobile and run it on the HSPA+ network until the new service is fully operational. At that time you’ll be transferred across to your new account.
Three is currently waiting for the all-clear from Ofcom to officially offer the iPhone 5 in 4G format, while O2 and Vodafone are set to sell the standard 3G versions.
No matter which version you’re thinking of opting for, operators are keeping contract pricing for the iPhone 5 a secret, but you can expect there to be a premium for the super-fast network.
With so much confusion around the emergence of 4G and the secrecy around network pricing, will you be waiting to get your hands on the iPhone 5 or have you already placed your pre-order? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
