iPads banned from Cabinet meetings, cue paranoia

After Russia supposedly gave ‘bugged’ USB sticks to G20 members, the UK government is taking no chances — with iPads reportedly banned from all Cabinet meetings, in order to prevent any foreign powers from hacking them.

Of course this could just be paranoia, but the UK’s intelligence agencies are taking no chances, with senior government figures telling the Daily Mail that countries such as China, Russia, Iran and Pakistan could have developed viruses to turn everyday electronics, such as iPads, into listening devices.

It’s not the first time the UK Government has been paranoid about technology, with reports that ministers in sensitive departments are given lead-line, sound-proofed boxes to place their mobile phones whilst talking about sensitive matters.
